The main shopping areas on the South Coast are found in Shelly Beach where you have the choice of either The South Coast Mall, a fairly recent addition or The Shelly Center, already an institution with residents. Both shopping malls provide a vast range of High Street Brand Stores, speciality stores, arts & crafts, high end jewelers etc. All major supermarket chains can be found in the area and both malls have a selection of restaurant franchises, cafe's and fast food suppliers.
Shelly Center also boasts a multiplex-cinema, which is a favourite with visitors in times of inclement weather
To the north of Shelly Beach, Port Shepstone has its own CBD shopping area and the Oribi Plaza, which also contain the major brand name stores.
To the south, Margate has the Checkers Center & Ramsgate has the Hibiscus Mall. Both have been recently renovated, but offer a smaller selection and variety to the bigger Shelly Beach malls.
For a more leisurely shopping experience, grab a copy of the Southern Explorer Route Guide, jump in your car and explore the area, where you will find hand made curio shops, clothing stores and gift shops offering locally made handicrafts, clothing and wonderful art work.
There is a weekly Flea Market on Saturdays at the Douglas Mitchel Sports grounds and a bi-weekly flea market in Palm Beach. On the way to Palm Beach you must stop off at Mac Bananas, originally a farm stall which has mushroomed into a fantastic fresh produce store and delicatessen, offering wonderful fruit, vegetables and exotic cheeses, pickles and preserves from all over the country and beyond. There is also a petting zoo for the kids and pancake restaurant for the hungry shopper as well as a few speciality shops.
